Oh, it’s just a bit of logical reasoning that was authored by Douglas Adams. It’s kinda humorous and at the same time, makes complete sense. Check out the youtube video: watch?v=dcncPpQ8loA . Basically, to be a devout follower of any of the 3 major religions, you have to have (blind) faith. Faith means believing in the face of absolutely no evidence whatsoever. So, if one were to prove that a god exists, god would logically, not exist. Check it out…

To the Flat Earth statement: it is true that a Christian came up with the theory of a Flat Earth. However, Galileo, a Christian, supported Copernicus (also a Christian)’s theory of a round earth even in the heat of the Flat Earth theory. Cosmas proposed the theory itself. It was accepted by the church, not forced by the church. This brings us to an interesting point: religion’s teachings can be disproved, but not spirituality.

I agree with your first statement… religion can be easily observed. Perhaps I was confusing religion with spirituality… But what do you mean by “proof denies faith…”?

I think you are mistaken. You can easily observe religion as well as its effects. Go take a look at Ground Zero or walk into any church or pick up any bible. What you cannot do is prove if god does or does not exist. Proof denies faith and without faith, god is nothing. As for the Flat Earth theory… Who do you think was responsible for most scientific discoveries in the early years of natural sciences? Yep, clergymen sent BY the church/state….

You cannot compare apples with oranges because they are completely different fruit. It’s a very popular saying. You cannot say that religion and the Flat Earth theory are on the same spectrum. You can observe the Flat Earth theory; it is tangible. You cannot observe religion.

Actually, most religions were invented, written and established when the popularly held belief was that the Earth was flat and the center of the universe. That’s funny you chose apples and oranges because they are both fruit. Religion and Flat Earth Theory/Geocentricity are both archaic belief systems based upon poor observations. A rose, by any other name, is still a rose….
