Remember, a picture with action draws memories. Sure, the guy had no memories with them, but the fact that there was life in the picture made them seem interesting.
The dead people looked ‘dead’ in the pictures as well. They didn’t look their best, had visible deformities (scars, etc), and were simply sitting and posing, usually with less of a smile than normal.
Darren does nothing to the guy to influence him other than choose certain photos.
