2007 Transitions from the Philosophy of 2006

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

Throughout history mankind has pondered what if scenarios and philosophy. Today perhaps there is less of such thought in many cultures due to the high-paced and high-stress societies, yet in some cases folks live much more comfortably then ever before. In fact even the Kings and Queens of Europe did not have air-conditioning, power or microwave ovens. They did not have telephones, cell phones, GPS or satellite radio and Television. Indeed there was no Internet to instantly look up information and there were not anywhere the number of books available even in the smallest library of today or chain bookstore.

An Open Letter To A Dying Planet

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

It will soon be a new year and we are almost a quarter of the way into the first decade of the new century. Where are we heading now? What will happen to the human race? Will it overcome its shadow side and migrate to the stars, a vision of Star Trek, or will it annihilate itself, the way the Roman empire, the greatest empire on earth, the pride of the ancient world, whose brilliant legislature, political organization, unrivaled military might, grand architecture, innovative engineering and artistic achievements have now been relegated to dusty archives?

Taboo

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

The word “taboo” comes from Polynesian word tapu and generally is understood as a ritual prohibition. It is important to note that all societies, cultures and religions are full of different taboos, and contemporary time is not an exception in this case. There are a lot of different views and perceptions concerning taboos, and one of them is functionalist approach. Let us regard some theories and explanations of taboos and rituals that relate to functionalist studies. Robertson Smith suggested that taboos were the surviving remains of primitive superstition. Radcliffe-Brown states that taboo is a rule of behavior that will cause the undesired change of status for the person who dared to breech it. He also suggested that taboos establish fundamental social values and are used to help keep order in the society.

Heralds Of The Dawn, Explorers Of The Light

All over the world, human beings seek the truth about the meaning of life. They do this in different ways but it is the spirit of their search which determines the quality of their findings. There are many degrees and variations of those who seek truth, a unusual brand of human beings who seek to understand the meaning of life on a fundamental level. These groups, for the most part, fall into two classes, science and religion. (And those who seek to interpret and present the meanings of these two groups are the artists.)

Connective Thinking - Creativity Techniques

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

“Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”
Albert Einstein

Imagination and creativity are two interrelated terms, the former leads to the latter. The etymological root of the word “creativity” in English and most other European languages comes from the Latin creatus, which means “to have grown.” How this works?
Human brains work by means of connections; connecting ideas new ideas emerge and so on. Unfortunately modern life has led to mechanical thinking, meaning that we are ruled by habits, automatic associations and responses. Getting stuck in fixed patterns of thought we have fewer and fewer connections and as a result imagination doesn’t work and poor creativity is trying to catch up with our artistic thirst.

From Towards Atman

True mysticism can be defined as a classical or scholarly understanding, in contrast with its degenerated and much abused use today, of any loose connection with the occult. I do not mean to say that areas within paganism are completely devoid of divine awareness. Quite the contrary, since I feel that man’s closeness to the earth, brings him closer to the source of his life, providing his ritual approach does not drown out his natural intuitive senses, where all meditative inclinations are lost. I think of the American Indian who through ritual, had a keen sense of the divine spirituality in all living things, including himself.

Metaphysics - A Philosophy That Makes Sense

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

In a world where people drive in the fast lanes, eat fast food, and complain that the computers and machines we use are not fast enough, it is no wonder we manifest disease, emotional and mental illness, and experience an emptiness that comes from a void of connection with one another and the Divine. Medical science has traditionally separated the physical body from the internal spirit, and society as a whole has focused primarily on the external aspects of life. It is encouraging to see the immergence of a new thought or new age (which having it roots in many ancient cultures is really not new at all) that suggests the best cure for disease is to understand and eliminate its root causes while treating its symptoms, and practicing prevention.

Conversations With God

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

Words define our reality.

We use words to translate the split-second images in our minds into describing our experiences for others.

William Shakespeare invented 25,000 words, which are now part of our regular vocabulary, thus broadening our abilities to perceive our world in a unique and much broader way.

For the most part, language has been used as a means of communication between people.

However, it has also been used as a way to converse with God, or the great mystery of causation and origination, the pervasive pure consciousness that informs all experiences.
